Set to be released on March 8th, 2024, the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4 has finally been released by DreamWorks. Watch below to see the excitement!
At this year’s CinemaCon, Jack Black teased the fourth installment’s plot, explaining that Po is shifting his life path from Dragon Warrior to spiritual leader; however, he must train his successor, a fox named Zhen, before he can make this transition. Along with this, a villain named Chameleon, capable of resurfacing old enemies, poses a new threat to the Dragon Warrior.
Awkwafina joins the Kung Fu Panda franchise as the voice of Zhen; aside from Awkwafina, Ke Huy Quan and Viola Davis will also be new to the franchise.
The Kung Fu Panda franchise began in 2008, following Po (Jack Black), a panda destined to become the prophesied Dragon Warrior–the only kung fu master able to defeat the evil Tai Lung. Po is trained by Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) and works along with a group of fellow warriors that make up the Furious Five: Master Crane (David Cross), Master Mantis (Seth Rogen), Master Monkey (Jackie Chan), Master Tigress (Angelina Jolie), and Master Viper (Lucy Liu). In the 2011 and 2016 sequels, Po and the Furious Five defend China against enemies as they uncover Po’s biological roots.
Over the years, the franchise has been a box-office success, bringing in about $1.8 billion. Aside from the movies, there are three television series: Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, The Paws of Destiny, and The Dragon Knight.
Mike Mitchell, known for Shrek Forever After and Trolls, will be the director of the fourth installment, Stephanie Hunt will be the co-director, and Rebecca Huntley will serve as producer.
