According to Deadline, Academy Award-nominated actress Kristin Scott Thomas (I’ve Loved You So Long) is attached to star in and make her directorial debut with The Sea Change, a romantic drama. Mark Strong (Miss Sloane) is in talks to co-star. Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Disobedience) is adapting the screenplay from Elizabeth Jane Howard’s acclaimed novel.
The first-time director said, “Sidney Pollack told me that actors are naturally good filmmakers and I want to make a film to continue my trajectory as a story teller. The Sea Change asks a question I have been trying to answer in many of my performances – what are the reasons for the thrills and difficulties of love? I want to make a film that has depth, humor and beauty.” The Sea Change centers on a marriage-in-crisis between famous playwright Emmanuel and his complex embittered wife Lillian (Scott Thomas). They travel from city to city, rich but discontented, and find themselves on a remote Greek island. Their lives are changed with the arrival of a young girl, Alice.
Barnaby Thompson is producing for Fragile Films. Rocket Science, newly launched by Thorsten Schumacher’s, will handle worldwide sales and will unveil the film to buyers next week at the European Film Market.
Scott Thomas received an Oscar nod for her starring role opposite Academy Award nominated actor Ralph Fiennes (A Bigger Splash) in the poetic romantic drama The English Patient which took home several Oscars in 1997 including Best Picture and Best Director. The British actress has taken on French-speaking roles in addition to English language films. Recent projects have included the war romance drama Suite Francaise starring four-time and current Academy Award nominated actress Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea) and The Invisible Woman which re-teamed her with Fiennes. She has just completed the comedy drama The Party, and is currently filming Darkest Hour, a Winston Churchill epic, in which she portrays Clementine Churchill.
