Kristen Wiig has officially signed on as the voice of Roboto in the live-action, big-budget Masters of the Universe movie being made by Mattel and Amazon MGM Studios. The character, typically voiced by a male actor in the original cartoon, is a robotic being made of transparent material that allows people to see the character’s inner workings, and features a removable hand that can attach various tools and weapons.
The film is based on the popular 80s toyline and subsequent cartoon. Both follow Prince Adam of Eternia, who gains the ability to turn into the hero He-Man using a mystical weapon known as the Power Sword. The cartoon and the toy line also feature supporting heroes who all help Prince Adam defend Eternia from the main antagonist, Skeletor, and his armies.
Joining Wiig is an all-star cast. Nicholas Galitzine will be playing the heroic Prince Adam/He-Man, with Jared Leto playing the main antagonist, Skeletor. The rest of the cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, James Purefoy as King Randor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms.
The film will be directed by Travis Knight, director of the Transformers prequel, Bumblebee, and the stop-motion animated film Kubo and the Two Strings. Chris Butler wrote the screenplay. The film is set to be released on June 5, 2026
