With major film festivals occurring within the next few months, many studios are submitting their films for potential Oscar buzz and discussion. As usual, Amazon Studios wants in on the action, as it was recently announced that one of their major films- a biopic on French New Wave actress Jean Seberg- will premier at the Venice Film Festival.
Seberg stars Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper, Twilight) as Jean Seberg, who faced scandal for her romantic and political involvement with activist Hakim Abdullah Jamal. This romance led to Seberg being tracked by the FBI during the late 1960s. The upcoming political drama will be directed by Benedict Andrews, best known for the 2016 film Una and will star Anthony Mackie alongside Stewart in the role as Jamal. Other actors set to appear in the political thriller include Jack O’Connell, Zaze Beetz and Vince Vaughn, just to name a few.
With Amazon Studios releasing this film, Seberg will definitely gain a bit of traction at the Venice Film Festival. It makes sense for Amazon to have one of their big films to feature Kristen Stewart, who’s received tom of acclaim for her Indie roles in films like Personal Shopper, a heavily discussed film at 2016’s Cannes Film Festival. Hopefully lightening will strike twice for Stewart, and may this upcoming film be one of the Venice festival’s most talked about entries.
No release date has been set for Seberg.
