With the Twilight franchise in the history books and the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman still in the early development stages, Kristen Stewart is going back to her indie roots. The actress is set to re-team with her Adventureland co-star Jesse Eisenberg in the action comedy American Ultra.
Nima Nourizadeh (who made the surprise teen party hit Project X in 2012) will direct the project from a screenplay written by Chronicle scribe Max Landis. The film concerns Eisenberg’s character – an slacker stoner named Mike whose past comes back to haunt him as he becomes a target of a government operation set to off him. Stewart will play his girlfriend Phoebe. Anthony Bregman, producer of the film states calls it, “Simply put, American Ultra will be the most fun you can possibly have in a movie theater without the use of drugs, fireworks or canola oil.” Bregman is currently enjoying the success and awards hopefulness of the Nicole Holofcener comedy Enough Said starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini, currently in theaters.
Eisenberg, who starred in this past summers surprise sleeper Now You See Me, has two films on the way next year that played well during the fall festival season with The Double and Night Moves. He is likely to return to the Now You See Me sequel as well. Stewart has recently completed the indie films Camp X-Ray and Olivier Assayas’ Sils Maria.
American Ultra is set to start production next spring.
