Executive producer Jonathan Schwartz gave dedicated fan theorists a lot more material to work with regarding Marvel‘s next release Captain Marvel when he unveiled some new details about the plot and villain of the film.
Schwartz stated that the main conflict of the film will be the conflict between the Kree and the Skrulls. The Kree are a powerful race from the planet Hala that are stronger and faster than humans. The Skrulls are a race of shapeshifters, led by villain Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), that have been in a long-lasting feud with the Kree. This interstellar conflict inevitably comes to Earth, introducing Captain Marvel to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Though the main overarching conflict will be the Kree-Skrull War, the heart of the film comes from Carol Danvers’ experience of self-discovery. At the beginning of the film, she believes herself to be full Kree and has been part of their elite force. But as they draw closer to Earth, she learns the truth about her past and her human origins.
The Kree have been introduced to the cinematic universe in Guardians of the Galaxy, so we’ll see how all the pieces from past films weave together to ultimately connect to Avengers: Endgame.
Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
