Coming after Venom: The Last Dance, the next Marvel outing from Sony, Kraven The Hunter, has been released. However, it’s already beginning to stumble coming out of the gate. Kraven The Hunter finds Aaron Taylor-Johnson take up the role of Kraven, one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. Although the wall-crawler does not appear in this film, Kraven himself is forced to hone his skills and become a formidable predator in order to oppose his father, played by Russell Crowe.
Within its preview day, the film was only able to nab $2 million in box office gross. The $2 million from preview shows puts the film on a track to finish the weekend at $15 million.
Hollywood Reporter notes that this now marks one of the lowest debut for a Marvel-based project. Ironically, this year also saw another low-earning effort from Sony and Marvel in the form of Madame Web. While it’s box office totals for the opening weekend still came up higher than where Kraven is expected to land, it’s looking to be by a small margin.
Hollywood Reporter also notes that the critical reception is also expected to hinder the final gross for Kraven. It currently holds a 5.5/10 on IMDb, while Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 15% critic score and 70% audience score.
Kraven The Hunter is now playing in theaters.
