While it has been reported that Netflix and Sony are planning to release a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, the process is moving more slowly than expected to some fans. Rei Ami, who portrays the singing voice of Zoey, had a recent interview with E! News where she was asked about the development of the sequel, to which the singer/rapper responded, “I’m waiting for the call, just like you! You’re gonna find out when I do, so we’ll chat then.”
This isn’t the best news fans want to hear right now, following a Halloween weekend box office re-release run of approximately $5.3 million, which can be considered disappointing compared to its first theatrical release back in August, which generated $18 million. With that being said, KPop Demon Hunters continues to have the placeholder of Netflix’s Most Watched Movie of All Time, and a little bit of box office disappointment isn’t going to stop its streaming numbers.
KPop Demon Hunters is an animated film that centers around a K-pop idol group named Hunter/x, which is a disguise for their real job of demon hunting. The girls can “use their singing voices to seal and maintain a magical barrier,” which is called the “Honmoon,” which stops any demons from entering the mortal world. The king of demons, Gwi-Ma, voiced by Lee-Byung-Hun, leads the leader of the Saja Boys, Jinu, voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop, to create a male idol group full of demons to fight the hunters.
KPop Demon Hunters is available to stream now on Netflix.
