‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Surprise Animated Short Released On Instagram

KPop Demon Hunters became a global phenomenon after its release on Netflix earlier this year.  While fans will have to wait until 2029 for the sequel, the official Netflix Instagram account dedicated to the franchise released a new animated short.

Sony Pictures Animation released brand new footage of stars Rumi, Zoey, and Mira thanking fans for the incredible success of the animated film.  The film became Netflix’s most-watched feature-length film of all time in 2025, spawning a cornerstone franchise for the streamer. Even though 2029 is a ways away, the new short should be an indicator to fans that they won’t be starved of KPop Demon Hunters content for that long.

The animated short was released almost in tandem with Spotify Wrapped, which saw the hit song from the film “Golden” join the Spotify Billions Club, accumulating over 1 billion streams.  Other hit songs from the film, including “Takedown”, “Your Idol”, and “What It Sounds Like” have also caught on massively with fans.  The new short acknowledges this, pointing towards the soundtrack as a major reason the stage was set for such global success for the franchise now and in the future.

Director Chris Appelhans has emphasized that there is so much more to explore in this world, hinting that the lore was intentionally left unexplored in certain areas.  The HUNTR/X trio’s journey and story are far from over, and there is plenty of space for future projects to explore how Rumi, Zoey, and Mira became demon hunters.  The new Instagram short has already surpassed 1 million views, setting the stage for short-form content to be a medium where the KPop Demon Hunters can thrive until the next film’s 2029 release.
