Following the confirmation that KPop Demon Hunters is getting an official sequel, the singing voices of the already iconic KPop group Huntr/x have revealed their own hopes for the future installment.
The Netflix animated film centers around Huntr/x, the group made up of singers Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who also “moonlight as demon hunters.” While the characters’ speaking voices are supplied by Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-Young Yoo, their singing voices were provided by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, respectively. Even though Nuna provided a disappointing update about the sequel’s production, or lack thereof, the singer, along with EJAE and Ami, was recently able to speak with Collider about their hopes for their characters in the next installment, following the official confirmation of the 2029 release date.
EJAE would like the sequel to include more “traditional Korean cultural touchstones,” including “history, music, food.” Nuna agreed, adding her own answer,
I want to see the girls in different cities. I want to see what they bring globally. Because I think this film has had such a global impact. I think the movie and reality have been having this really crazy conversation with one another, so I would love to just see that continue.
Ami took her hopes in a different direction, with her ideas centering around an origin story, as she stated,
I would love to see the origin story of how the girls got together. If it’s not a prequel, then I want Gwi-ma back. Bring him back. Who’s going to be the antagonist? I’m so curious for this next one.
For now, Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are targeting a 2029 release date for this next installment.
