Korean Filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho Signs With WME

Korean Screenwriter and Director, Yeon Sang-ho, known for the recent successes Hellbound and Train to Busan, has recently signed with WME agency in all areas. Since Sang-ho’s breakout with Train to Busan in 2016 which grossed over $98 million, the Korean filmmaker has been put onto the map as one of Korea’s most prolific filmmakers. Hollywood Reporter wrote in their review of Train to Busan,

“As one might expect from a director who started out as a visual artist, the film establishes spatial relationships well, so it’s always clear where characters are in relation to each other. If the secret aim of Train to Busan was to leave a calling card, this will certainly impress backers with bigger budgets.”

Yeon Sang-ho recently made two projects for Netflix, one being the series Hellbound, and the feature film Jung-E. Sang-ho also made the sequel to Train to Busan titled Peninsula which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2020. The director also produces his own company called WOWPOINT which is based in Seoul and is headed by Yoomin Hailey Yang. The company has been responsible for the projects of The Bequeathed and Parasyte: The Grey.

The next upcoming picture from Yeon Sang-ho is Revelations which illustrates a pastor and a detective who team up to look for a missing person set to be released on Netflix in March. 35th Street is also an English language action-horror venture that is to be released by Tri-Star with Yeon Sang-ho attatched to direct and write.
