KJ Apa and Sofia Carson to Star in ‘Songbird,’ a Pandemic Thriller Produced By Michael Bay

Riverdale heartthrob KJ Apa and Descendants star Sofia Carson have been cast as the leads in new pandemic thriller produced by Michael Bay. Directed by Adam Mason, Songbird began production in Los Angeles last week.

Adam Goodman and Andrew Sugerman’s Invisible Narratives is behind the project and will be produced by Catchlight Studios alongside Bay. Production will be fully financed by Invisible Narratives.

In an announcement on Monday, Invisible Narratives revealed a little more of what can be expected of the film: “to be with the one he loves, our hero must overcome martial law, murderous vigilantes and a powerful, well connected family, helmed by a matriarch who will stop at nothing to protect her family and maintain her way of life.”

The story will be set two years in the future during a pandemic lockdown and tells of the budding romance between Nico (Apa), a motorbike courier who has rare immunity to the disease, and Sara (Carson), a young artist.

Others also on the call sheet include Bradley Whitford, Craig Robinson, Jenna Ortega, Paul Walter Hauser, Peter Stormare and Demi Moore, who will play the matriarch mentioned in the announcement.

Although it was shut down briefly by SAG-AFTRA, Songbird is one of the first projects to begin production since the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

Earlier this year, Apa starred in his first leading role in a feature, I Still Believe. He is represented by UTA, Red11 Management, Luber Roklin Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman. Carson, most recently starring in Neftlix’s Feel the Beat, which released in June, is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham.
