The Planet Of The Apes franchise returned to theater screens last year for the first time since 2017. While the success of it generated enough buzz for word of a sequel, last year’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes left enough loose ends to set up a continuation. Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes, set generations after Caesar led the apes to a safe sanctuary, follows a young chimp trying to save his tribe after they get taken by the misguided Proximus Caesar.
Kevin Durand was responsible for playing Proximus Caesar, the leader of a tribe of apes who took Ceasar’s teachings to heart and started enforcing them in tyrannical ways. While given a conclusive end to his character by the climax of Kingdom, Durand has teased the possibility of him returning in a sequel.
While speaking about a new project of his at SXSW, Durand shared his own optimism that Proximus’ story could continue, stating that while he was defeated and presumed dead, the character’s body was never seen.
“I remain cautiously optimistic. I would love for him to come back. I had so much fun playing him, so we’ll have to wait and see,” he said, according to Screenrant, who initially reported on Durand’s hope for a return.
