Kevin Bacon is about to cut loose!
Bacon recently announced on the Today show that he will be attending this year’s prom at Payson High School in Utah, the high school where he filmed Footloose over 40 years ago. The school invited him as a celebration before they relocate to a new building after the end of this academic year.
The school has always celebrated its connection to the film, even memorializing his locker from the film. Students at the school used the hashtag #baconforpayson, recreated scenes and dances from the iconic film, and hosted an event to promote Bacon’s charity organization SixDegrees.org. Bacon recently recognized the students’ devotion in a video call as seen live on the Today Show.
Bacon stated, “I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back. I’ve been amazed at the work that all of you have been putting into this, with the musical and the flash mobs and the re-creations.” Bacon recognized the students further, “It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me, not to mention the fact that you tied in SixDegrees.org, our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to your community. It’s really inspirational, so thank you. Thank you.”
In the end, Bacon announced “And I’m gonna come. I gotta come” to mass applause.
