Kevin Spacey reveals he has “no home” in an interview with The Daily Telegraph that was published on Wednesday, his reason being the financial fallout of sexual assault allegations.

The Academy Award-winning actor disclosed the financial losses surrounding the allegations that were revealed in 2017, stating,

“The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical. I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out. Everything is in storage, and I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle down again. I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”

Spacey started out as a stage actor in 1981 and transferred over to the big screen in 1986, going on to win two Oscars, one for 1995’s The Usual Suspects for Best Supporting Actor and another for 1999’s American Beauty under the category of Best Actor. Starting in 2013, Spacey began to portray Frank Underwood in the Netflix political thriller series House of Cards, for which he was nominated for Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes.

However, in 2017, actor Anthony Rapp revealed Spacey made a “sexual advance” toward him in 1986 when the actor was just 14; Spacey would have been 26 when this encounter occurred. As other allegations of sexual abuse soon came out, Netflix severed its ties with Spacey, cutting him out of its final season, and his scenes in Ridley Scott’s film All the Money in the World were re-shot with the late Christopher Plummer instead.

Spacey has remained steadfast in his denial of the allegations, and in October 2022, a New York jury found him “not liable for battery against Rapp”. A London court also found Spacey “not guilty of seven counts of sexual assault” as well as two other counts of “serious sexual offenses” in July 2023. Despite these legal battles finding Spacey in favor, Hollywood has yet to welcome the actor back into its fold. Spacey seems to remain positive that his welcome back to Hollywood will still happen, but in “its right time.”

The actor believes that the industry is waiting for someone, “in some position of enormous respect and authority,” to give them the green light. Spacey does not name the alleged person.

Mallery McKay: I am a graduate student, focusing on writing for and about films. I have a passion for films and the news surrounding them, so I always try and keep up to date with the latest news.
