Mark Ruffalo has spoken up in defense of fellow star Billie Eilish. Ruffalo responded to a comment made by Kevin O’Leary against Eilish.
The situation itself goes back to last weekend, when Eilish won the Grammy for Song Of The Year for Wildflower. When she was actually on stage giving her speech for the award, she used the chance to discuss current political issues, including the ongoing argument over the tactics and goals of ICE. In her speech, she said “that no one is illegal on stolen land. … It’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room.”
Her comment got an extremely mixed reaction online after the Grammys. One response in particular came from the aforementioned O’Leary, who told Fox News that he was not a fan of what Eilish had to say. He was very upfront about it, expressing how he feels that those who involve themselves shouldn’t “be stupid about it”, while explaining that a good variety of the people Eilish is speaking out against wouldn’t support her or her career.
It was that comment in particular that, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, sparked Ruffalo to take to Threads and make a counterargument. He cut right to the point, telling O’Leary to “STFU.” He continued his comment, saying, “you will go on any show and talk shit about any number of things and smugly expect us to listen to you, but you will dig into a real artist that dwarfs anything you dream of doing for actually saying something that resonates with 100’s of millions of people the world over.”
