Richard Donner’s Scrooged is slated to be revived by comedian Kevin Hart’s efforts. Through his own production company, HartBeat Productions, Hart intends partner with Paramount to remake Donner’s 1988 dark comedy for a modern audience. However, it still remains unknown as to who’s writing the film’s script or when it will be released.
The original Scrooged stars Bill Murray as a modernized version of Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Murray played a selfish and heartless television executive named Frank Cross who, much like Scrooge, is visited by three ghosts in an effort to show him the type of life he carries out and what will happen if he doesn’t change his ways. The film was nominated for an Oscar and won an award at the BMI Film and TV Awards.
Hart recently starred in 2018’s Night School alongside Tiffany Haddish and was one of the main characters in Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. He will also be starring in the upcoming drama film Fatherhood, which is set for release April 2020. Production for the Scrooged reboot will begin after Hart wraps up the Jumanji sequel, which is set to finish production this December.
