Earlier this week, Marvel and Disney held a world premiere for their upcoming film, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, the director of Eternals Chloé Zhao and MCU head Kevin Feige were also in attendance and were asked whether or not their following film, Eternals, would have an exclusive theatrical release.
Feige told Variety the following, “I think a theater would be my preference and Chloé [Zhao]’s preference. We will see where we go with it.”
The uncertainty makes a lot of sense as the delta variant of the coronavirus has put the theater experience, as well as many other things, in jeopardy once more.
Eternals was originally scheduled for a November 2020 theatrical release, but due to the pandemic was pushed back a full year. Director Zhao still found a lot of success with her Oscar winning film Nomadland. A film that won Best Picture and Best Director at this year’s Academy Awards.
On the Marvel side, while Black Widow and Shang-Chi seem to be going full steam ahead, the third MCU film of the year is currently up in the air. However, Feige nor anyone at Marvel have made any official decision on the release of the film as of yet.
The Chloé Zhao film, Eternals, is set for a November 5, 2021 release as of now.
