Kevin Costner’s ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ To Leave HBOMax

Kevin Costner in Official Trailer for Warner Bros. 'Horizon: An American Saga- Chapter 1' (2024)

Already plagued by a series of bad luck, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter One is hit with yet another unfortunate blow as it’s set to leave HBOMax on February 28.

The film was meant to be followed by an additional three movies culminating in a four-part saga, but low box office returns halted the release of chapter two. The box office wasn’t the only blow to hit the failed saga. After unsuccessful attempts to find suitable funding for the high-scale adventure, Costner put a large amount of his own funds into it. However, that doesn’t appear to have been enough, as most recently, he was sued for failure to pay for costume rentals.

On top of the financial implications brought about by the film, Costner’s also being sued for sexual harassment by a stunt performer involved in a rape scene for the not-yet-released Chapter 2. Costner continues to seek funding to finish the remaining films of the saga, but with the delay in the release of Chapter 2 and the loss of a streaming audience after leaving HBOMax, the chances for additional installments are low.

Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 is set before, during, and after the Civil War, following a series of characters as they experience the expansion of the American West.
