Sam Esmail has added two more stars to his Netflix film, Leave the World Behind. Kevin Bacon (You Should Have Left) and Farrah Mackenzie (United States of AI) have signed onto Esmail’s project. Bacon and Mackenzie are joined by an already all-star cast, including Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman), Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), Ethan Hawke (Moon Knight), and Myha’la Herrold (Industry).
Based on Rumaan Alam’s novel, Leave the World Behind is about a family on vacation on Long Island that two strangers disrupt with news of a mysterious blackout. In a world now falling apart and the threat growing stronger, the two families must choose how to survive the impending crisis.
Esmail has adapted the screenplay from the novel, with Chad Hamilton producing it through Esmail Corp. Hamilton works with Roberts, Lisa Gillan, and Marisa Yeres Gill for Red Om Films. Executive producers are Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis, Danny Stillman, and Esmail Corp’s Nick Krishnamurthy.
Bacon has been nominated for an Emmy, won a Golden Globe, and is currently working on Showtime’s City on a Hill.
Mackenzie has been staring in CBS’ sitcom, United States of AI, and has been seen in Amazon’s Utopia as well as Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky.
