Ke Huy Quan, celebrated for his Oscar-winning role in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), has signed on to star in Fairytale in New York, an action thriller directed by Jalmari Helander, known for Sisu, the 2022 WWII action film about a veteran battling Nazi adversaries. Produced by FlynnPictureCo.—which also handled Murder Mystery 2 (2023)—the film is set to begin international sales through Lionsgate.
Written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the screenwriters of 2022’s Black Adam, Fairytale in New York unfolds in New York City on Christmas Eve. The story follows Quan as a modest cab driver taking one last fare before reuniting with his estranged son for the holidays. However, his plans go awry after a run-in with thieves results in his son’s cherished Christmas gift being stolen. Determined to recover it, Quan’s character embarks on a relentless pursuit, mixing heart and thrills in this holiday action narrative.
This film adds to Quan’s remarkable Hollywood comeback, building on his iconic roles in 1985’s The Goonies and 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. After taking a hiatus from acting, Quan found success as a stunt choreographer, contributing to films like X-Men. His re-entry into the spotlight has seen him land high-profile projects, including the Russo brothers’ The Electric State for Netflix, which will debut in March 2025.
Represented by United Talent Agency, Quan has also expanded his screen presence with recent roles in Loki Season 2 and Disney+’s 2023 animated series American Born Chinese. With this upcoming holiday film, Quan is sure to continue being a steady presence in film and television over the coming years.
