Cannes Film Festival winner of the Palmes d’Or, Fjord, and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma filled out the finalized lineup for the Czech film festival. Fjord stars Renate Reinsve and Sebastian Stan as they move their family out of Romania to start a new life in Norway. The festival will also feature plenty of other standout festival films, alongside films from the Afterhours program.
This will be the 60th festival out of 80 years, mixing together films under the umbrella of the Afterhours and Horizons sections. The festival is set to screen 130 films, a mix of documentary style and feature-length films. The Hollywood Reporter highlighted some other standouts that will be shown under the Afterhours moniker.
…include the likes of Jane Schoenbrun’s feminist slasher Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Aidan Zamiri’s mockumentary The Moment about Charli XCX, the South Korean zombie film Colony from director Yeon Sang-ho, and the animated satire Jim Queen from Nicolas Athane and Marco Nguyen about a gay influencer who contracts a virus that makes people straight.
The festival will also include films from the Sundance and Venice film festivals. Organizers of KVIFF have made it clear that they are excited to bring back a number of filmmakers who have debuted their films at the festival in the past. This includes the likes of directors such as Cyril Aris, Visar Morina, and Andrius Blaževičius.
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is set to take place from July 3 through July 11.
