Writer-producer Rob Lieber has signed on to the United Talent Agency after the Verve agency’s semi-implosion. With this transfer, Lieber could have more backing for his upcoming Karate Kid reboot.
Verve was amid a shake-up thanks to a decision in February to part ways with their CEO Bill Weinstein. While no clear answer was given regarding this course of action, many speculated that the decision was made due to financial issues. Since the agency was primarily focused on literary efforts, it was hit the hardest by the writers’ strikes and television contraction. With Verve collapsing, many clients like Lieber parted ways and got picked up by the UTA.
Lieber is currently on the set of the latest Karate Kid movie, which acts as a soft reboot of the series. Some new faces like Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) will take the spotlight while other franchise veterans Jackie Chan (Rush Hour) and Ralph Macchio (Cobra Kai) will reprise their roles from past entries. There are no plot details regarding the film or any official release dates set up.
Through UTA’s help, Lieber can continue to be a big name for family entertainment. From producing films like Peter Rabbit to penning the upcoming adaptation of Oh the Places You’ll Go, Lieber’s partnership with UTA will undoubtedly benefit his future career.
