Kaniehtiio Horn has announced the cast for Seeds as the team prepares to kick off production in Ontario. This project acts as the Canadian actress’s feature directorial debut.
Seeds tells the story of Ziggy as she kicks off her career in the world of online influencers with Nature’s Oath, a seed and fertilizer company. When her cousin calls her back to the reservation, Ziggy is put into a fight to save her people’s legacy and discovers her power through her community.
According to Deadline, Graham Greene, Patrick Garrow, Dallas Goldtooth, Meegwun Fairbrother, and Dylan Cook will join Horn as stars of the cast. Bonnie Whitlow, Cherish Violet Blood, and Peter Keleghan will also take part in the ensemble.
Not only will Horn be starring in this home-invasion comedy, but she will also act as the writer, director, and executive producer for this project with Jonathon Cliff as the cinematographer. Seeds was claimed by Telefilm Canada as one of six projects selected for support through their Indigenous Stream for Theatrical Documentary Program and the Production Program.
The film is produced by Carpe Dee Yum Productions and Jennifer Jonas and Leonard Farlinger of New Real Films and acts as the first project under Horn’s production company, Kaniehtiio Horn-Batt Entertainment.
“Stepping behind the camera to write, direct and produce felt like a natural progression after 20 years of experience in front of the camera as an actress,” said Horn. “It’s been really exciting having this chance to flex the creative muscles I have gained along the way. Seeds is a fun genre-bending dark comedy. It is particularly gratifying to bring Indigenous stories to life in this way, and I couldn’t have done this without such an incredible team supporting me.”
