Jurassic World: Rebirth has received its official rating from the Motion Picture Association board, fitting right in with the other entries of the Jurassic Park/World series, Bloody Disgusting reports.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, the sequel follows Zara Bennett, a covert operations expert and her team who are contracted to visit the original island where Jurassic Park’s research facility is located, to collect genetic samples from several dinosaurs for a critical life-saving drug, only to find multiple surprises and horrors in store waiting for them.
Now, the MPA board has given Jurassic World: Rebirth an official rating of PG-13 for “intense sequences of violence/action, bloody images, some suggestive references, language, and a drug reference”, which puts it right in step with the other six entries in the franchise.
Steven Spielberg, the director of the original Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park, returns as producer, as does original writer David Koepp. New in the director’s chair is Gareth Edwards, who recently helmed The Creator, replacing Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first three Jurassic World films.
In a reversal from where the previous entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, left off, with dinosaurs repopulating all over the world, Rebirth changes it so the creatures have not gotten used to Earth’s current ecosystem, with the survivors returning to the more tropical environment that they are used to. Koepp discussed this alteration, saying:
“I hope people like the movie because the series tended to change after [Jurassic Park III], and it felt like, ‘Okay, so let’s change our tone.’ Steven and I were interested in a tone that was maybe more akin to the very first movie.”
Along with Johansson, Jurassic World: Rebirth also stars Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein, and will arrive in theaters on July 2nd.
