As the Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1st release date creeps closer, more and more details spill forth about the juggernaut film (does anyone feel like they’ve already seen it?). On April Fools’ Day, one surprising truth about the superhero sequel surfaced courtesy of Slashfilm – Julie Delpy (the Before Sunrise trilogy) and Linda Cardellini (TV’s Freaks and Geeks, Netflix’s Bloodline) will both be playing small undisclosed roles. The two were included on a list of cast members expected to be on the red carpet for the film’s upcoming premiere.
Based on the star-quality and talents of both actresses, it would be safe to assume that though small, their roles are likely not insignificant. Many have speculated that one of the two could be portraying Captain Marvel in a surprise film-end cameo, a character which also has a stand-alone film in the works as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3. The MCU is notorious for packing a lot of comic book history into one powerful scene, often as a tail-end cliffhanger to connect the tentpole franchise (i.e. the link between the Infinity Stones scene during the credits of of Thor: The Dark World and the eventual Avengers: Infinity Wars, which also introduced Benicio del Toro’s Collector character.) It is also possible (and more likely) that the actresses will play characters not directly connected to the Marvel world, such as Ashley Johnson’s waitress character in Avengers.
Whatever the case, this news comes with the expectation of more Easter eggs for fans to find throughout Avengers: Age of Ultron. See the film’s official trailer here and let us know any ideas you may have regarding Delpy and Cardellini’s roles below.
