On his blog, The InSneider, Jeff Sneider revealed Julia Butters joined the cast in Disney’s sequel to Freaky Friday. She will play a major starring role alongside stars Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls, Irish Wish) from the first film.
Butters has recently been on a roll. At ten years old, she received acclaim for her performance as Trudi Fraser in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. Additionally, she had roles as Reggie in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Claire in The Gray Man, and Lily in Queen of Bones.
The first Freaky Friday follows Tess and Anna Coleman, a mother and daughter who are total foils from each other. After driving each other insane, they awake one day to find they have switched bodies. From there, Tess must live Anna’s life, and Anna lives Tess’ life—all the while trying to find a solution to their problem.
A sequel has been in the works since 2022, with Curtis expressing enthusiasm about the project. Freaky Friday 2 will once again have Tess and Anna swap bodies. Instead of with each other, though, they will switch places with two teenage girls—one of them possibly played by Butters.
