After a two year wait from the sequel announcement, Judy Hopps, played by Ginnifer Goodwin, and Nick Wilde, played by Jason Bateman reunite in Zootopia 2. Disney released the first teaser trailer today, giving fans another glimpse into the beloved city once again. The first film followed the unlikely duo of rookie bunny cop, Judy, and the con artist fox, Nick, as they solved the mystery of the savage predator attacks. Now, the duo are full fledged cops and partners, and are tackling a new case involving a mysterious snake voiced by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan.
In Zootopia 2, Judy and Nick head to the bustling Marsh Market, where they follow their latest lead. They find themselves on the tail of Gary De’Snake, who’s appearance has caused some drama in the mammal heavy city. His story will take center stage as the police investigate his time in the titular city. But as the trailer showed, there’s more than meets the eye with new characters and new places.
Along with Goodwin and Bateman, returning characters include Gazelle, played by Shakira. The Grammy winner promised a “new look, a new song and, of course, new dance moves” for her and her tiger dancers. New cast members include Fortune Femister, who can be seen in season 2 of FUBAR, and Abbott Elementary creator and star Quinta Brunson, who will play Dr. Fuzzby, the quokka partner therapist for Judy and Nick.
Half of the original writing and directing team for Zootopia has also returned for the sequel. Byron Howard is returning to co-direct alongside Jared Bush, who previously co-wrote the first film. Together, they created one of Disney’s biggest hits from recent years. It was hailed for its ability to confront more complex societal topics through the rabbit and fox duo, brining in over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Zootopia 2 releases in theaters on November 26. Check out the trailer below.
