Disney has released the first full-length trailer for the highly anticipated Zootopia 2. In the trailer, we see the returning characters of Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) attending a partner therapy session after only a week of working together on the police force. Based on that, it is clear that even though Judy managed to straighten Nick out by the end of the first film, they still have a lot of work to do if they want to function well together as partners.
Later in the trailer, we see Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) give the two an assignment that is “make or break” for them. The pair must track down a wanted snake or else the chief will split Judy and Nick up for good. Nick says in the trailer, “No snake has set foot in Zootopia in forever.” The snake, voiced by Ke Huy Quan, is mysterious, but he does say something about needing to save his family.
It’s been 9 years since Zootopia was released in theaters, which continues a trend for Disney of releasing sequels to their beloved animated films much later than one might expect. Last year, Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 both released nearly a decade after the first film, but they both performed extremely well at the box office. Disney hopes to capture that again, even giving Zootopia 2 the exact same release window as Moana 2 did last year. Zootopia 2 will be in theaters this November.
