Ever wish you could combine Melissa McCarthy’s hilarious on-screen antics with Jude Law’s suave demeanor in a “007 meets The Heat”-style spy-comedy? Bridesmaids director Paul Feig was thinking the same thing! The Wrap reports Law is nearing a deal with 20th Century Fox to join Melissa McCarthy as well as co-stars Jason Statham and Rose Byrne in the spy-comedy Susan Cooper.
Feig, who directed McCarthy in both Bridesmaids and The Heat, wrote the script and is set to direct and produce through his Feigco Entertainment banner. Like his previous comedies, Susan Cooper will feature a strong female character in the lead, which in this instance means Melissa McCarthy will be transformed into a master of espionage. The film will be set up as a potential franchise, similar to The Heat.
Since plot details are scarce at the moment, there is no word on the role Law will play in the film. He can be seen next in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel as well as Richard Shepard’s Don Hemingway. He recently finished production on Kevin MacDonald’s treacherous treasure-hunting adventure Black Sea.
Susan Cooper is slated for a May 22, 2015 release.
