Not to be daunted by the Man of Steel nor by the Dark Knight, comedy kingpin Judd Apatow’s (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) next directorial effort is now scheduled to hit theaters a mere week after Warner Bros. colossus Batman vs. Superman (or whatever it ends up being called). The film, entitled Train Wreck, was initially going to be only an Apatow produced project, but Apatow will direct rising star Amy Schumer (Comedy Central’s Inside Amy Schumer) in a comedy about…well, we don’t really know what yet.
Train Wreck has yet to begin principal photography, the main reason the release date is so far out and we don’t know much about the film yet, but it remains at the top of the long list of Apatow feature film projects in development (he just finished producing Anchorman 2). He’s also busy as executive producer (and occasional writer) on Lena Dunham’s HBO hit Girls.
For Schumer, Train Wreck will be her first starring role in a feature. Schumer also wrote the script, continuing her career trend as both writer and actress. It’s a trail that’s been successfully blazed by other Apatow-ites such as Seth Rogen and Jason Segel, and we at mxdwn Movies have high hopes for Train Wreck given that Schumer has started with one foot more heavily entrenched in the writing realm than either Rogen or Segel. We’ll get to see if the experience pays off when Train Wreck comes to theaters July 24, 2015.
