Irish-born actor Jonathan Rhys Meyer has signed on to play the lead role in the survivor tale Shambhala.
The story will be set in Pakistan, where the lone survivor of a plane crash is stranded in the country and is forced to deal with the language barrier and culture clash.
Rhys Meyer has enjoyed a lengthy career spanning over two decades. His most prominent roles have been in Woody Allen‘s Match Point opposite Scarlett Johansson, J.J. Abram‘s Mission: Impossible III opposite Tom Cruise and the lead role of King Henry VIII in the Showtime series, The Tudors. Most recently he has completed filming on the upcoming Roland Emmerich historical drama Stonewall, and two of his other projects – London-Town and Damascus Cover – are in post production.
The cast includes Pallavi Sharda (Haiwazaada) and Ashay Kubar (Brothers).
The movie will be directed and written by Summer Bodhi Nicks (021) in his first major solo directorial debut. Huw Penault Jones and Jomon Thomas will serve as producers.
Production on Shambhala will begin later this fall.
