With more R-rated films becoming major hits at the box office, fans have been urging studios to get bolder and make more R-rated comic book movies. Deadpool and Logan have proven that R-rated comic book movies can be successful, and with an upcoming movie based on DC’s most iconic villains on the horizon, many are curious to whether Warner Bros. will take note from Fox’s R-rated Marvel films. Luckily many fans will be pleased now that the highly anticipated Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix has been confirmed to receive an R-rating.
The announcement came on Instagram where director Todd Phillips posted a picture of Joaquin getting ready as the Joker with the description, “Finishing Touches.” On the post, Phillips was asked by a fan regarding film’s rating from the MPAA, and in the comments he replied by stating, “it will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew.” This is incredibly reassuring to many fans who have been hoping this upcoming Joker movie will go all the way with the violence considering how disturbing the character of the Joker can be. While no official confirmation has been made by the MPAA, it is safe to assume that the film will make this interpretation much darker than any other Film version of the Joker.
Joker is set for release on October 4th 2019.
