Johnny Flynn Joins Anya Taylor Joy in ‘Emma’

Actor and musician Johnny Flynn has been added to the cast of the newest film adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel Emma. Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) is signed on as the lead with newcomer Autumn de Wilde set to direct. Author Eleanor Catton will write the screenplay, making the move to film after her 2013 novel The Luminaries won the Man Booker Prize.

Flynn is an up-and-coming name with credits such as TV series Lovesick, Genius, and Vanity Fair and films such as Song One and Clouds of Sils Maria. Also a singer-songwriter, he’s the frontman of a folk band called Johnny Flynn And The Sussex Witt, which has released 3 albums.

This is the latest adaptation of Emma since the 1996 film with Gwyneth Paltrow and the 2009 BBC mini series. No details have been released yet about the plot or if the story will be updated or modified. This will be the next chapter in the steady stream of Jane Austen adaptations to hit the big screen.
