The Black Pearl may be ready to set sail again. As talks continue of a sixth installment in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, word has emerged on whether or not series star Johnny Depp will step on board once again.
First appearing in 2003’s Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl, Johnny Depp played Captain Jack Sparrow, a seemingly drunken fool with a grudge. Using his skills that are always underestimated, Captain Sparrow is driven by a mission of revenge: to take back his ship and kill his treacherous first mate who took all he had and left him for dead.
Upon the release and success of Curse Of The Black Pearl, Jack Sparrow became a pop culture icon, with Depp even being nominated for an Oscar thanks to his role. Depp would return as Sparrow in each subsequent film, up until the fifth and latest installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales.
However, while buzz of a possible sixth film, Depp reprising his role remains up in the air. Due to a lengthy legal battle between Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard, many companies cut ties with Depp in the midst of the trials. MovieWeb, in their initial reporting, stated that Disney was among the companies that severed their ties with Depp.
Reportedly, The Express stated that a source within Disney confirmed there is a plan in place for a potential new film if Depp returns or not.
“They actually had two scripts ready to go – one with Johnny in mind, the other without him – and they are ready to can the one without him.”
As alluded to in the comment, Depp and Disney have discussed the potential of him returning, and his return seems reportedly more likely than not.
