John Ortiz and Tip Harrris Experience the 2014 Water Crisis in ‘Flint’

The ongoing Flint water crisis will get a film of its own in a project written and directed by Malcolm M. Mays. Featuring Fast & Furious star John Ortiz and rapper Tip Harris, the film depicts the controversial issue alongside the story about an ex-convict who becomes involved with murder mystery instigated by his previous lover and a mentee. Will Smith‘s and John Lassiter‘s Overbrook Entertainment will produce the film. Executive producers include Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett with Harris, Brian Sher, and the late John Singleton, who helped bring this film to life.

The Flint Water Crisis began in April 2014 when the water source for the people living in Flint, Michigan changed from treated water that originated from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the Flint River. Officials neglected to add corrosion inhibitors to the water after it changed sources. These chemical compounds prevent lead contamination in the water. Health problems and death resulted due to the elevated levels of lead.

Ortiz has starred in The Cloverfield ParadoxKong: Skull Island, and, most recently, Bumblebee. Harris has been involved with Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and will be starring in the biographical comedy Dolemite Is My Name with Eddie Murphy.
