Via Deadline, writer director Joe Cornish is set to helm his next film Starlight for 20th Century Studios. It will be an adaptation of Mark Millar and Goran Parlov‘s comic with the same name. Starlight was published in 2016 and the style is heavily inspired by Alex Ross’s DC comics art work.
Millar is most famous for his comics that have been turned into films, including the Secret Service comics that eventually turned into the Kingsman franchise, Wanted, and, of course Kick-Ass.
Cornish on the other hand is less well-known to the public, but wrote and directed incredibly underrated films Attack the Block and The Kid Who Would Be King, the former he is currently rumored to be working on a sequel for. Cornish has also been a writer on a plethora of television shows. All of his films are well-made and have a great sense of humor to them.
In comparison to Millar’s other works, Starlight is a little more serious, though it still has the classic Millar realism and or cynicism. Starlight follows a superhero that saved the universe years ago, but no one believed or believes him. He now lives a nuclear family-type life. However, as any story, he is called back to action, and hopefully this time people will know Starlight.
There is no set production date, stars, or additional writers for Starlight.
