Following the massive success of her adaption of Normal People, playwright Alice Birch’s next project, The End We Start From, has just cast Jodie Comer in the leading role. Comer is a BAFTA and Emmy award-winning actress, best known for her work in the smash television show Killing Eve, in which she starred alongside Sandra Oh.
The End We Start From is another book adaption of a hopeful family-centered story following a mother and her baby trying to find their way home after a disastrous flood overtakes London and leaves the city in crisis. It’s said to portray the dramatic survival at stake and a moving representation of motherhood in the first degree.
The novel was originally written by Megan Hunter in 2017 and has been a finalist for multiple different literary prizes. Winner of the BAFTA for Breakthrough Talent, Mahalia Belo, is confirmed to be directing the project.
The film will be produced by BBC Film and SunnyMarch, a film and television company co-founded by none other than the acclaimed Benedict Cumberbatch. Well-known executive producer Sébastien Raybaud’s organization Anton, will also produce and finance the picture.
Production is currently to begin in August of this year.
