According to Deadline, following a country-wide casting search, it has been announced that The Deuce’s Jo Ellen Pellman has been signed on as the lead of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix film The Prom, a film adaptation of his Tony-nominated Broadway production. Pellman’s signing also includes the additions of Logan Riley Hassel, Sofia Deler, Nico Greetham, and Nathaniel J. Potvin to The Prom‘s supporting cast and will eye a December production commencement date.
These new add-ons will feature alongside an all-star cast consisting of Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Keegan-Michael Key, Kerry Washington, Andrew Rannells, and Ariana DeBose and is projected for a Fall 2020 release date on Netflix. Pellman will play the role of Emma, a high school senior residing in Indiana who is prohibited from taking her girlfriend to the upcoming prom. In the midst of controversy, a quintet of Broadway stars portrayed by Steep, Corden, Kidman and Rannells rally behind Emma as they travel to the small town to aid her.
The writing duo of Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin compiled the screenplay together, which was based on Jack Viertel’s original idea. Murphy will be accompanied by a production team consisting of Alexis Woodall, Bill Damaschke, and Dori Berinstein.
