Jimmy Kimmel, host of the Oscars Sunday night, closed the show by reading a review posted by former president and current presidential candidate, Donald Trump. “Isn’t it past your jail time?” Kimmel retorted.
Trump took to his social media site, Truth Social, to voice his opinions on Kimmel and the Oscars themselves, saying:
“Has there EVER been a WORSE HOST than Jimmy Kimmel at The Oscars. His opening was that of a less than average person trying too hard to be something which he is not, and never can be. Get rid of Kimmel and perhaps replace him with another washed up, but cheap, ABC ‘talent,’ George Slopanopoulos. He would make everybody on stage look bigger, stronger, and more glamorous.”
“Also a really bad politically correct show tonight, and for years – Disjointed, boring, and very unfair,” Trump continued. “Why don’t they just give the Oscars to those that deserve them? Maybe that way their audience and TV ratings will come back from the depths. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
Kimmel sardonically thanked Trump for his review before delivering the “past your jail time” line, mocking both his age and criminal charges.
Over the years, Trump hasn’t been known to shy away from commentating on award shows. However, Kimmel strayed away from including digs at political figures in his monologue, so Trump taking the time to comment on the show was unexpected.
