Jessica Rothe is ready to do another Happy Death Day, and is just waiting for the greenlight from Blumhouse and Universal. In a recent interview, she revealed that she and writer/director Christopher Landon sat down and broke the whole movie together.
“Chris Landon and I have actually broken the whole story, which was really fun. We went to an undisclosed location—a Le Pain Quotidien in between our houses—and sat there for hours and broke the third movie. And now, we’re just waiting for Universal and Blumhouse to [give us] just a little money.”
Happy Death Day centers around Tree (Rothe) who gets murdered on her birthday, only to wake up on the morning before it happened. She winds up stuck in a time loop and must reveal the killer’s identity to save her own life and break the loop. The sequel, Happy Death Day 2U, expands on the sci-fi elements, moving past just time travel and placing Tree in a parallel universe.
It seems that Rothe and Landon are both eager to make the film, but the proposed third film has yet to be greenlit by Blumhouse or Universal. Stay tuned for more updates here at MXDWN.
