In an interview with Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer discussed Deliver Us From Evil as well as several upcoming films including Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Bad Boys 3, and National Treasure 3. Bruckheimer confirmed that he has looked at scripts for all three potential films and hopes to have more concrete news in the not-to-distant-future. More immediately, Deliver Us From Evil, based on a true story about a detective and a priest investigating demonic possessions, just arrived in theaters July 2nd.
When asked if Pirates 5 will contain “demonic monsters” Bruckheimer said that the current script featured minimal supernatural elements. Considering that all four films in the franchise so far have featured monsters or cursed treasure, it will be a new move for the franchise to become a “straight pirates movie” as Bruckheimer put it. Then again, Bruckheimer only directly denied that the film would have a Kraken so would zombie pirates still count as monsters?
Meanwhile, Bruckheimer hopes to have a screenplay for Bad Boys 3 ready in the next few months, and is certain that the entire film will take place in Miami this time. National Treasure 3 will have the same director, John Turteltaub, but will likely have a different writing team. Bruckheimer did not mention if Michael Bay would return to the Bad Boys franchise and made no comment regarding the cast of either film. Will Smith of Bad Boys is currently one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood so despite being one of the stars of the franchise, he is not necessarily guaranteed to return. Nicholas Cage has not yet confirmed if he will be back for National Treasure 3.
