Weeks after actor Jeremy Renner was crushed by his snow plow on New Year’s Day, it was announced he was trying to save his grown nephew from getting crushed, according to a Nevada sheriff’s office incident report.
It was discovered the parking brake was not engaged, and that’s what caused the snowcat vehicle to start sliding sideways toward the 52-year-old Avengers star. Renner was using his plow to pull out his nephew’s truck from a snow bank, according to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office report.
“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding, causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” reads the conclusion of the report, which CNN obtained Tuesday through a public records request.“Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed, based on our mechanical inspection, that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over.”
The brake indicator light found inside the snowcat was not functioning, and “mechanical issues may have been a factor in this accident,” the report states.
The nephew managed to help Renner until medical personnel arrived, who airlifted the actor to the hospital, where he stayed for over two weeks. Renner had at least two surgeries at the hospital and was treated in the ICU.
The Hawkeye actor says he broke 30 bones in this accident.
Renner posted a photo on Instagram last week, captioned: “Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years …. Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love ❤️ I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness for my family and I …. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens . Love and blessings to you all.”
