Jeremy Allen White Plans To Sing For His Role As Bruce Springsteen, “We’re Gonna Try”

In April of this year, it was announced that 20th Century Studios would finance and release a Bruce Springsteen narrative film titled Deliver Me From Nowhere. Scott Cooper wrote the script and is set to direct this project with the man playing the boss himself, Jeremy Allen White.

White was seen on the red carpet this past week promoting the release of The Bear Season 3, a show in which he stars in the leading role of Carmen Berzatto. On the carpet, Variety’s Marc Malkin asked White questions regarding the Springsteen project, one being whether White would sing the boss’ timeless anthems himself. To this question, White responded, “We’re gonna try. We’re gonna try our best,” insinuating that the star will soon practice his singing instead of his cooking.

White also revealed that he never met Springsteen. “We’ve communicated a little bit through some other people, but I hope this still all comes together…I’m trying to have a bit of my own process with it before meeting the man, too…I wanna try to have an understanding, so when I meet him, I’ll have a bit of confidence somewhere in me to stand there.”

Deliver Me From Nowhere is set to follow Springsteen during “a pivotal moment in his life. Grappling with personal demons and trying to wrap his arms around becoming a global superstar.” The film will take place during the release of his album Nebraska. The public overlooked Nebraska during its initial release, although it “rivals Joni Mitchell’s Blue as one of the most emotionally raw, dark and honest albums in recent music history,” according to Variety

Biopics and films following famous musicians have been on the rise in recent years, most notably with Bryan Singer’s Bohemian Rhapsody, Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman, and Reinaldo Marcus Green’s Bob Marley: One Love and Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Back to Black, both released earlier this year.

Deliver Me From Nowhere will not be the first movie surrounding Springsteen as 2019 saw Gurinder Chadha’s Blinded by the Light, the story of a young boy who found inspiration through Springsteen’s music to learn to live and overcome the political issues surrounding his people and country. Springsteen also has musical documentaries in his catalog, two including 2019’s Western Stars and 2020’s Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You. Despite these films, Deliver Me From Nowhere will be the first Springsteen project that will focus on the star’s personal life as he is depicted through an actor rather than himself.

No other information on the movie has been released.
