Jenny Slate is the latest actor to join the highly anticipated Sony release Venom, according to Variety. She will be joining star Tom Hardy as well as Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams. Ruben Fleischer is directing the project.
Venom exists within the world of Spider-Man, but Sony has confirmed that the webbed superhero will not be making an appearance in the film. Venom is an alien symbiote that is one of the most popular antiheroes within the Spider-Man universe. The character was played previously once before by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Rumors state that the villain for the film may be Carnage, another more murder-y symbiote, and it is being assumed that Ahmed will be filling that role.
Slate has been building up her screen presence majorly as of late. She made her mark in Gillian Robespierre’s Obvious Child and appeared earlier this year in her follow-up film Landline. She also recently starred alongside Chris Evans in Gifted. Coming up, she will be appearing in Brain On Fire, Hotel Artemis, and The Secret Life of Pets 2.
