Oscar winning megastar Jennifer Lawrence, who is soon to be seen on screens opposite Chris Pratt in the upcoming high concept sci-fi title Passengers, appears to be circling an intriguing vehicle in the future. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break ground that Lawrence may soon star in Zelda, an upcoming biopic on Zelda Fitzgerald, the wife and muse of literary great F. Scott Fitzgerald as well as an accomplished artist in her own right. Ron Howard is helping to develop the project and is perhaps circling the idea of directing the film himself.
Taking cues from Nancy Milford’s best-selling biography Zelda (a source that has been optioned by the filmmakers involved) and based on a script written by Emma Frost (The White Queen), the film looks to comprehensively study of Zelda Fitzgerald. Dubbed by husband “the first American flapper,” Zelda Fitzgerald held a fascinating life as wife, novelist and socialite. The film looks to explore both the love and the competition of the two as she attempted to rise in literary stature while also succumbing to mental instability – she was later diagnosed with schizophrenia. Allison Shearmur, who as a former Lionsgate executive has a history with Lawrence thanks to The Hunger Games films, will produce the title.
This latest project adds to a growing list of hot properties involving Lawrence. The Silver Linings Playbook star recently wrapped a film directed by Black Swan‘s Darren Aronofsky – drama that features the stellar ensemble cast of Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Javier Bardem and Domhnall Gleeson – and appears to next jet to Red Sparrow, a thriller directed by Hunger Games vet Francis Lawrence (no relation). She is also attached to star in Adam McKay’s buzzy drama Bad Blood. She last appeared on screen in David O. Russell’s Joy, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
We shall stay tuned to the latest involving Zelda.
