Director-producer So-yong Kim (For Ellen) will reunite with actresses Riley Keough (The Runaways) and Jenna Malone (Into the Wild) for her latest film Lovesong. Based off Kim’s own screenplay, the film will follow two best friends Sarah (Keough) and Mindy (Malone), who take off on an impromptu road trip with Sarah’s young daughter in tow. The journey sparks up an unexpected romance between the friends, even though Mindy is a bride-to-be.
The film will be produced under Gamechanger Films, which is a company dedicated to funding female-centric narratives on the big screen. Not only is Kim’s film a female-driven story, but it also will introduce a new LGBTQ narrative to the Hollywood fold.
For Keough, who starred in the Kim-produced Jack & Diane, this will be her first lead role since that 2012 film. Before work begins on Lovesong in Tennessee, Keough is set to appear in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Malone, Kim’s For Ellen actress, can now be seen in theaters in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice and is set to reprise her role as Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Mockinjay- Part 2.
