James Cameron‘s sequel to the 2009 hit Avatar may be appearing sooner than expected. While the initial cast is expected to return, many are curious about who else could potentially join the world of Pandora. Luckily, Flight of the Conchords and Moana actor, Jemaine Clement has been cast in a role for the upcoming film.
Clement will be playing a role of a Marine Biologist known as Dr. Ian Garvin. Not much else has been stated about Jemaine’s role, including whether or not his character is a protagonist or antagonist. James Cameron did however express a lot of interest working with the comedic actor. Cameron stated that “I’ve loved Jemaine’s work for years and I’m really pumped that he’s joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters,”. Jemaine Clement has been very well liked as an actor from many of his roles, so with him being in a high profile sequel to something like Avatar, there will certainly be some interest in regards to his role in the film.
Clement co-created comedic mockumentary hit What We Do in the Shadows and is now a writer, executive producer, and director for the TV show adaptation on FX. He is also a recurring character on FX’s Legion.
Avatar 2 is set to release on December 17th 2021.
