Shortly after the explosive $60 million Memorial Day Weekend release of A Quiet Place II, Paramount Pictures has given us a release date for a spin-off of the franchise directed by Jeff Nichols, which is set to come out March 2023. The new film won’t be a “Part III,” but instead will focus on different characters within the same world.
There haven’t been many plot details released about the new film, but it will apparently broaden the post-apocalyptic world seen in the first two films. Early on in the franchise, John Krasinski suggested that the universe could easily be expanded by telling stories of different characters dealing with the post-apocalypse in different ways, and the new film from Nichols will be based on one of Krasinski’s ideas.
Nichols isn’t exactly known for making horror films, but his work has never lacked in thrills and intensity. He’s mostly known for films like the 2011 drama thriller Take Shelter, the 2016 sci-fi thriller Midnight Special, the 2012 drama Mud and the 2016 romantic drama Loving.
So far, A Quiet Place Part II has made itself the highest-grossing post-pandemic theatrical release, earning $70 million domestically and $93 million worldwide. It’s hard to tell if an entry in the franchise will succeed without the characters and direction of Krasinski’s first two films, but considering a release was just announced, it seems that Nichols and Paramount are confident enough to follow through with the project.
