‘Jay and Silent Bob’ Reboot Ready to Start Production

It looks like the fictional character duo that became a phenomenon in the late 90’s to early 2000’s, Jay and Silent Bob, will be returning to the big screen. The announcement was made from the Twitter account of American actor, comedian, and filmmaker Kevin Smith who created the stoner duo.

Jay and Silent Bob first made their appearance in the classic 1994 indie film Clerks, which become a cult film through the 90’s. Since then, Smith (who portrays Silent Bob) has used the characters in most all of his films, comics, television series, and even the podcast he has done with the other half of his duo, American actor Jason Mewes (Jay). All of these properties reside within Smith’s “View Askewniverse” where he keeps his characters such as the aforementioned duo. Fans have wondered when there would be a new property utilizing the two characters, especially since Smith has confirmed working on a new Jay and Silent Bob reboot in February of 2017.

In this tweet, Smith acknowledges his previous promise of a reboot and the challenges he faced with a heart attack which almost killed him in the previous year. The reboot would be of the same vein as 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, a buddy comedy of the iconic stoners on a road trip. Since that is also the only movie that Smith owns the rights to, it is the easiest to continue. According to his tweet, production on the film is set to start a week from Monday (yesterday) and it will be interesting, to say the least, how this film pans out.

Robert Thornson Jr.: My name is Robert and I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a B.A. in Film and Media studies with hopes to work in the creative industry. I have always had a passion for storytelling and since youth I've loved film. I grew up loving the movies of directors like Wes Anderson, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, and many more along with writers such as Aaron Sorkin and Quentin Tarantino. One thing I have always done is write about movies and communicate to others information about the "film community" and the industry as well as about the films themselves. I write creatively on a daily basis.
